Running Out of Titles, Don't Know How to Feel About It

Image
Hey y'all! I'm back with yet another blog. This week, I decided to revert back to some research that is more on the historical side of the spectrum of my research. It was pretty gruesome, to say the least. I primarily focused on the research of actual human sacrifices that happened in ancient civilizations. I'm also sort of relieved that I did not stumble upon any modern day human sacrificial ceremonies, because that would be terrifying. When I thought of human sacrifice, I most thought about tribes, and people who lived in communities of that sort, but my research proved me wrong. Almost all ancient civilizations had some type of human sacrifice ceremonies: Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Mayan civilizations, hell, there were even some remains that point to human sacrifice at Stonehenge. Oh yeah, if you read my blue man/ chicken blogs from a couple weeks back, I actually came across an article of actual occurrences like the one in Apocalypto. It was not necessarily as dra...

I Can't Seem to Get That Song by Big Sean out of my Head

Arch Girl here, back with another post. Also, I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day. :) Any who, this week was filled with some insightful takes on what sacrifice meant to some people I talked to. Some had a lot to say, others... eh, not too much. All interviewees were close in age to me, so around 19-20 years old, and they were all female. Though some felt as though the sacrifices they made were small/insignificant, it still had some type of impact on their lives. They all, in a way, came to a similar conclusion: sacrifice can be inevitable, and it can be life changing/ life altering. Since I haven't really worked out the kinks yet on how to make a type of voice memo collage to add to the blog, I'll add some quotes from some of the interviewees... "Sacrifices in your life help shape the person you are. It's putting your self out of your comfort zone; it's doing something that's not your norm." "Whatever you don't get from it {sa...

Another Week, Another Blog

It's the Arch Girl, back again with another blog. This week's research was kind of, how you say, blah. I sort of hit a block on what I was actually looking for. I did however come across this very interesting short story titled, The Gay Old Dog  by Edna Ferber. Unlike most of the other stories I came across, this one's theme did not focus on sacrifice between lovers, but one much greater: a mother's dying wish, that her son basically put his life on hold for his sisters' and ended up old and lonely. I found this intriguing because this was one of the first stories that I came across that talked about sacrifice in a different lime light. This was a perfect find that'll help me to some modern day research with actual people I encounter. Keep in mind: What does sacrifice mean to you? Signing off...and see you next week!

Remember that scene in Apocalypto, with the blue chicken men?

Yeah, so I'm back with another blog post. Finally. My research has been going well, and this week I decided to look into writings that included themes of sacrifice. It's a lot of them---more than what I would have imagined there could be. There are stories from way back in the day, stories like The Gift of the Magi. You know, the story of when Mickey gave his harmonica up for Minnie's gift? Yeah, that one. This week's research has been quite intriguing, though. I found that many stories that did involve having to give up--sacrifice-- something had to deal with people who were lovers or had some type of deeper connection with each other. I also so that it was a common theme in religious settings and writings, also. The christian Bible, is basically one big example of that, starting with how Adam and Eve sacrificed their relationship with God just to taste a piece of the forbidden fruit, or how God sacrificed his only son...etc. You get the idea. I'm enjoying this...
